CIRCULAR GARDEN
JULIE NESTER GALLERY
Circular Garden brings together botanical paintings by Carol O'Malia and abstract pointillist works by AJ Oishi in a vibrant exploration of nature, color, and inner transformation. In her newest series, O’Malia reinterprets the lush floral compositions of Rachel Ruysch, the celebrated 17th- and 18th-century Dutch painter known for her exquisite still lifes. While honoring Ruysch’s extraordinary detail and layered arrangements, O’Malia introduces a contemporary sensibility through luminous natural backgrounds and subtle abstract elements that breathe new life into the tradition of botanical painting. Oishi’s serene, meditative paintings are composed of thousands of carefully placed dots and harmonious complementary colors. The recurring circular forms throughout her work symbolize individuality, growth, and the ongoing journey toward a more mindful and balanced life.
